Today, this first Sunday in Lent, we think about prayer.  In the words of the Welsh poet R.S. Thomas, prayer is not about petitioning God but rather it is "the annihilation of differences, the consciousness of myself in you, you in me..."  This connectedness is not just between one human and another, or between humans and the divine energy of life and love, but a radical connectedness with all planetary life.  Whenever we care for another, laugh with a child, or wonder at the stars we are 'doing God' - being in God,  and God being in us.
