Lent Week 3 - Thoughts on Fasting
What would the world be like if we gave up anger for Lent?
In his sermon on Sunday 3 March 2024, Rev Glynn Cardy reframed the idea of fasting with the metaphor of a tramping pack. I ask, "What are we carrying?"
One thing that many carry is anger, an anger that when expressed is frightening to children and others. We need to be able to transform feelings of anger into a different type of energy - a constructive energy. What would the world be like if we gave up anger for Lent?
He also talked about the community as a whole engaging in a fast, a giving up, of its preoccupation with each individual's concerns, and instead creating pathways of justice and hope for those in poverty.
