Waitangi Day 2024
We often see without seeing, and read without understanding. We are taught, based on our experience of the world, to assume.
In Rev Glynn Cardy's sermon on Sunday 4 February, he began by addressing the parable of the talents, which is a good example of how, on the basis of assumptions, we can get things really wrong. He then goes on to talk about understandings of the Treaty of Waitangi in the 1970s and the racist assumptions of the majority at the time. Recently, Glynn visited Pātea, and watched the documentary about Poi E with its lessons about such assumptions - and the love, determination, and community needed to overcome them.
